AUSTRALIAN BEECH
Eucalyptus pilularis

One of the most economically important hardwoods, Australian Beech is a tall tree up to 230’ in height. Known in Australia as Blackbutt for its particularly striking appearance, with a dark nearly black shaggy bark defining the butt, from which the straight white trunk rises to at least half of the tree’s height. The wood is renowned for both its strength and versatility of application with attractive coloring from cream to pale brown.

Description: Timber has a warm nutty color varying from cream to pale brown.

Origin: The coastal forests of New South Wales and Queensland.

Hardness: Janka hardness is 2046. Red Oak is 1290.
